Distributio – population
The Harbour Porpoise lives only in the northern hemisphere (Atlantic, Baltic, etc). There is an isolated population in the Black Sea (it is the subspecies: Phocoena phocoena relicta), which includes the Thracian porpoises. In the Mediterranean, their only population is located in the Northern Aegean and is estimated at around 30 to 450 individuals. Although it prefers shallow waters, it generally avoids contact with humans. Hunts mainly on the surface of the water.
It is considered an endangered species.
